Obama/Monkey/NY Post Issue

February 20, 2009 · 2 Comments

Few things to cover.

Obama: Yes, Yes, change. He got elected, now, the masses have stopped being proactive about their government, voting is only one part of our democratic process; we have four years to show that we can collectively make a difference if we don’t; he’ll just be the first black guy in office. It can be so much more than that.

Monkey (the one that got shot) Uhm, shouldn’t be giving a chimpanze xanax or feeding it alcohol. Maybe if she treated the thing more like an animal and not her husband, this would have not happened. I do feel sorry for her friend that’s still in the ICU and I definitely feel sorry for the chimp that had to die because some old lady wanted companionship and didn’t know where to stop.

NY Post; I’m sure that when the idea for the cartoon was thought up and even done, comparing Obama to a chimp was not what you had in mind, I’m sure…I’m sure cartoonist guy had some other thoughts as to why it would have been appropriate…but he neglected to think that everyone else didn’t necessarily have the same thought process and it came off as distasteful (even though Obama personally didn’t write our stimulus package he just approved it) and racist; no one likes to be compared to a monkey whether they are white and black or white or black; it was an error in judgment but it became much more than that, because our President is half African American and I’m sure has been referred to as a monkey at some point as a racial slur (or at the very least other african american people were called monkeys so, the point is not lost here) and we are at a time where as a country we are hyper-sensitive about race because it is still not something that we have put behind us, we are not in a place where we can; this just added some zest to the sauce. Be sensitive, you’re in journalism…act like it.

President Elect, Barack Obama

November 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I will be proud to say that I was here, that I did my part and that I only have hope for the future. Thank you everyone, for voting, for being responsible and for not allowing McCain/Palin anywhere near the white house.

Speechless.

Video Game Campaign?

October 15, 2008 · 1 Comment

So, it would be completely unlike me if I let this story pass by and not make a comment. Obama has bill boards in the video game Burn Out Paradise. I have mixed emotions, on one hand as a voter and a resident of the united states, I feel like it cheapens it a bit, I feel like running for the Presidency of this country is a big deal and that people might/will look down on advertising in video games. On the other hand (gamer thoughts) the gaming industry is a huge demographic and reaches people of every race and gender and just about every age group that is eligible to vote and will spark conversations with those that are young enough to ask questions but are not old enough to vote. Gaming is so popular and so forthcoming that it would almost be silly not to advertise there, it’s like running a commercial at superbowl almost.

All in all, I think it’s a great way to put himself out there, as someone you wouldn’t mind shooting the shit with but at the same time, someone you know would kick your ass at war strategy. The in game billboard was genius. Good thinking.

Rumor: McCain wants to know if he can put bill board advertisements on Nintendo 64. :D

After you beat the game, go vote!

After you beat the game, go vote!

I think this says a lot about where we are as a technologically reliant culture though. Your thoughts? Please leave a comment.

Internet Election, Bias Election

September 13, 2008 · 1 Comment

Since we’ve become so technologically advanced, it seems that a lot of focus us placed on advertising the candidates for our next upcoming election online. It seems that facebook and myspace jabs have replaced actually debates and town hall meetings. I get it, we need to cater to our youth, but we need to inspire our youth to care, not to make a decision based on popularity.

I praise both McCain and Obama for getting online, being on those mediums but how much relevant information can really be passed on through the internet? Things get skewed, misinformation runs rampant and mostly, you’ll get bashed horribly if someone doesn’t like you. There are two campaigns going on here, one that’s going on in the real world where people are willing to go hear these people speak and one online which is more of shitfest of one candidate going against each other, online you can pretend its anonymous and shift blame, you can call people names, call them out period and blame the intern who did it, the supporter who wrote the blog etc but to what end.

Palin’s family is too riske for someone that’s supposed to be conservative, she doesn’t help people that have special needs when she has a special needs child, her son is on drugs, she cheats on her husband. McCain cheated and left his wife for a hot(yeah…not really hot) but younger woman and moved on with his life, he reiterates over and over again that he was in the military and that he was a prisoner of war; his wife has too much money, they have too much houses.  Obama is black, inexperienced…did I mention black? Bi-racial, his pastor is a radical racist who is having an affair, his wife is too tough and calls him out during his speech, he’s too viral, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Biden, that guy? that’s who their choosing?

It’s all bullshit. People see what they want to, predjudices and bias exist only if we allow it to. There shouldn’t be Black, white, female, male, old or young questions. There should be questions about our social security, our health care system, our economic recession, the bringing our troops home, the over all value of our dollar, the price of gas still being high when the price per barrel is cheaper….we need to be asking questions about our future instead of bickering about the classifications of the people running.

I don’t care if their democratic or republican, if they can take us there, if they can help heal our country from the idiocy that has befallen it for the past 8 years.

Use the internet for good, explain your policies in detail, let us know why you would be better, how our country can be better and we’ll stand by you.

While my personal choice if Obama this election, I do not feel like I should be judged, belittled or called names for my personal decision. I feel the same way about any one else’s.
